The Call of the Harpers

In ancient days the harpers of Eire had great power and influence. Will they be heard in modern Ireland as they protest the motorway that is ploughing through the Tara Valley? It was a very moving day. Of course they played "The Harp That Once in Tara's Hall" by Thomas Moore and also many of O Carolan's tunes. Exquisite music. Look closely and you'll see the Green Man who attended the rally. The Irish government buildings are in the background, behind the wrought iron fence. And that's the gorgeous Stuart Townsend in the foreground, the Irish actor known from Queen of the Damned and All About Adam. He has been supporting this cause for three years now. I'll be posting pics of the human harp we formed on Tara Hill today - over 2,000 people! - so stay tuned.

Shouldn't it be possible to stir up some interest in this across the pond? In the US I mean? Just tell the Irish-Americans that their ancient ancestral sites are being leveled to build a road, and maybe a few of them might think it interesting. And nothing changes the mind of the Irish government faster that a bit of a leaning-on by the US...

There were protests in the US also. And the EU is moving to possibly outlaw the motorway, but the official cogs go slowly and the government is rushing the road through. As always, you see, there is money to be made here, chiefly in development of the land around the motorway.

This may be off the subject of the protesting, but I really, really think Mr. Townsend would be marvelous for Finvarra! I've been looking at actors and just people to see who would be a good Finvarra, but none fit the part as good as he does!
